From Transaction to Transformation: The Future of Gifting

The future of gifting is not about giving things. It’s about shaping journeys.
How I Used to See Gifting
If I go back a few years, I saw gifting the way most people do. You give something. Someone receives it.
Exchange complete. Simple. But over time, I started noticing something uncomfortable.
Most gifts… didn’t last. Not physically, but emotionally.
They were appreciated. But they didn’t change anything.
The Shift That Changed My Thinking
I began asking myself: What is a gift actually supposed to do?
Is it just:
A gesture?
A formality?
A way to acknowledge an occasion?
Or can it be something more? That question led me to see gifting in three layers.
Layer 1: Transactional Gifting
This is where most gifting exists today. “Here’s a gift.”
It’s functional. Expected. Often forgettable.
It checks a box.
Birthday? Send something.
Festival? Send something.
Client? Send something.
There’s no depth here. Just completion.
Layer 2: Experiential Gifting
This is a step higher. “This feels special.”
There is thought. There is effort. There is a moment.
The packaging is beautiful. The gesture is appreciated.
It creates a memory. But even here… something is missing. Because the impact still fades over time.
Layer 3: Transformational Gifting
This is where it gets interesting.
This is rare. And this is where I believe gifting is headed.
Because a transformational gift does not just create a moment.
It creates a shift.
It reframes how someone sees themselves
It anchors a life transition
It becomes part of their identity
It doesn’t just sit in their life. It integrates into it.
What This Means for Me
This is the moment I realised something important. I am not building a gifting company. And Soulify is not in the business of products.
What We Are Actually Building
We are designing human experiences.
Moments that:
Stay longer than the occasion
Mean more than the object
Evolve with the person
Because the real value of a gift is not in the giving. It is in the becoming.
Why This Matters More Today
We are living in a time where:
Everything is accessible
Everything is fast
Everything is replaceable
Objects have lost their weight. But meaning hasn’t. In fact, meaning has become more scarce. And that’s where gifting has an opportunity.n Not to give more things. But to create more meaning.
How I Think About Soulify Series Now
Each series we build is not a category.
It is a journey layer.
Pregnancy → Becoming a parent
Voyage → Navigating change
Chuddy Buddy → Living friendship
Transformation → Becoming a new self
Acknowledgement → Feeling seen
God Series → Connecting beyond self
These are not gifting moments.
These are life transitions. And our role is simple: To design something that belongs in that journey.
The Question I Now Ask
I no longer ask: “What should I gift?”
I ask: “What can this person become through this moment?”
Because that changes everything.
In the End
I’ve come to believe this deeply: A transactional gift is received. An experiential gift is remembered. But a transformational gift…
Becomes part of someone’s life.
And that is the future I’m building towards.
Not more gifting. But better becoming.
